2008 Sports Awards Launched

Ards Borough Sports Development Committee launched their 2008 Sports awards this week. The Awards Ceremony will be held on Friday 27^th March 2009. For the second year running Castlebawn Ltd will be the major Sponsor. Ards Borough Council Sports Development Officer Emma Hingston welcomed the continuing support of Castlebawn Ltd. and all of the other sponsors who sponsor the individual categories of award winners.

Kieran McCarthy MLA, Chairperson of the Ards Borough Council Sports Development Committee commented that the awards were an opportunity to acknowledge all those who had made notable achievements in Sport. In addition, it was an opportunity to recognise Club officials and coaches who had helped those sports stars reach their potential. Every Club, he said, had its unseen band of workers and he paid tribute to their commitment.

Rab Dunn, Honorary Secretary of the Sports Development Committee explained that this year there would be nine categories of award. The Categories are Lifetime Achievement Award, Sports administrator of the year, Sports Coach of the year, Under 12 Team of the year, Under 18 team of the year, Team of the year, Under 12 Sports person of the year, Under 18 Sports person of the year, and Sports person of the year.
